Lawrence E. Geiger Sr., 79, of Rockford, died at 8:41 p.m. Monday,
March 3, 1997, in River Bluff Nursing Home after a long illness. Born
Sept. 17, 1917, in Davenport, Iowa, son of Albert L. and Edith Vollmer Geiger.
Married Adeline Loy on Sept. 17, 1938, in Davenport. He served a
four-year tool-and-die manufacturing apprenticeship, and after many years of night
school, was employed as a manufacturing engineer by several local
companies.
Past chairman of American Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Member of
Alpine Lutheran Church and Men's Bible Study Group. Also member of Navy
and Elks clubs. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Survivors include wife,
Adeline; son Lawrence E. (Martha) Geiger Jr.; daughters, Joan ( Rev. A.P.)
Weber, Jan. (John) Currier and Jill (Dale) Olson; grandchildren, Dr. Lisa
(Greg) Nelson, Lt. Paul (Mary) Weber III, Larry Geiger III, David Geiger,
John (Jeni) Currier Jr., Mary (Keith) Ramsey, Scott (Kristi) Olson, Carl
Olson and Robin Engaldo; great-grandchildren, Emily and Dylan Nelson and
Ben and Grant Weber; brother, Kenneth Geiger; sister, Mary June (Darel) Hein;
sisters-in-law, Irene Loy and Harriet Brown; several nieces, nephews and
special friend, Earl Finch. Predeceased by sister, Helen Malik.
Services at 11 a.m. Thurscay, March 6, in Alpine Lutheran Church,
5001 Forest View Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Richard J. Meier officiating. Burial
in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday
in the church. Memorials to Hubert and Lucille Ahnquist Scholarship
Endowment Fund at the church. Arrangements by Fred C. Olson Funeral
Chapels, East Chapel, 1001 Second Ave. 3-5-2
