- CLARK, NEWTON, SCHEFT posted by Claudia Schuman on Sunday, March 1,
1998
- I am
researching the James CLARK family who came to the US
from Gunthorpe, Norfolk County England in 1836, lived in
NY for three years, then moved west to Winnebago County,
IL. James and Phoebe (NEWTON) CLARK settled in Seward, IL.,
in 1847. They had the following children: Margaret, John,
Elizabeth, Martha, Emily, Robert W., James N., Isaac. B.,
Franklin M., Newell, D., and Doane O. In 1845, James' two
brothers, Samuel and Robert CLARK and their families, and
his parents, James and Elizabeth (SCHEFT) CLARK also came
to the US and settled in Seward Twp. I have traced the
family in Gunthorpe, England to 1747 and have been
tracing the descendants of James and Phoebe CLARK to the
present. I would like to exchange information with any
descendants so they may be added to the database. Some of
the other surnames connected to this family are: Bates,
Withers, Butts, Hibbard/Hebard, Locke, Coolidge,
Anderson, Stewart, Broadie.

CHAPMAN was one of five brothers, ORVILLE, DANIEL, FOSTER
and VOLNEY They were the sons of HENRY DEARINGER AND
MARIE ARMER CHAPMAN. They were born in New York and moved
to Michigan in the 1840's. HENRY apparently deserted the
family and I believe MARIE married a JACKSON. SPAFFORD
moved his family to Rockford, Ill. Second wife was
CHARLOTTE and he had two boys and a girl. The names I
have areAVE, ASHER and SHER. I would appreciate any
information on this family.

- BETTS, BETZ posted by Billie Leclerc on Wednesday, April
1, 1998
- BETZ--My great
grandfather's brother born and baptized in Jennerstown,
Somerset County, PA 1841-1844, is rumored to have died in
New Millford, Winnebago County, Illinois! His name was
Emmanuel B. BETZ or maybe BETTS but I have no other
information about him or about his life and/or family.
Perhaps he has produced offspring who see his name here
and know that there is an extended family of 'shirt-tail'
relatives who are anxious to learn about him and them!
